What is a Computer Keyboard? – Parts, Layout & Functions

What is a Computer Keyboard? :

A keyboard is a peripheral device that connects to a computer to input data. It consists of keys that are pressed by the user to input letters, numbers, and other symbols. The keyboard is the primary way to enter text into a computer.

There are several different types of keyboards, including mechanical, membrane, and virtual. Mechanical keyboards are the most common type of keyboard. They use physical switches beneath the keys to register input. Membrane keyboards are made of a flexible material that presses against a circuit board to register input. Virtual keyboards are displayed on a screen and can be used to input data.

The layout of a keyboard is the arrangement of the keys. The most common keyboard layout is the QWERTY layout, which is used in English. Other keyboard layouts include the Dvorak layout and the AZERTY layout.

The function of a keyboard is to input data into a computer. The keys on the keyboard are used to input letters, numbers, and symbols. The Enter key is used to input a line break, and the Spacebar is used to input a space. The keys on the keyboard can also be used to input special characters, such as the @ symbol.

Parts Layout :

A keyboard layout is any specific mechanical, visual, or functional arrangement of the keys, legends, or key-meaning associations (respectively) of a computer, typewriter, or other typographic keyboard.

There are dozens of different keyboard layouts, each designed for a specific language or purpose. The most common keyboard layout in the United States is the QWERTY layout, which is used for English. Other common keyboard layouts include the Dvorak layout, the AZERTY layout, and the QWERTZ layout.

The QWERTY layout was designed for the English language, and it is the most commonly used keyboard layout in the United States. The QWERTY layout gets its name from the first six letters in the top row of the keyboard (QWERTY).

The QWERTY layout was designed in the 1870s by Christopher Latham Sholes, who was the inventor of the typewriter. The QWERTY layout was designed to slow down typists so that they would not jam the keys on the mechanical typewriters of the time.

Functions :

A function is a set of statements that take inputs, do some specific computation and produces output. In other words, a function is a program within a program. Functions help us in modularizing and reusing our code.

There are 3 types of functions in JavaScript:

1. Built-in functions
2. User-defined functions
3. Anonymous functions

Built-in functions are the ones that are available in the JavaScript language. Some examples of built-in functions are isNaN(), parseInt(), eval(), alert(), etc.

User-defined functions are the ones that are created by the user. We will see how to create user-defined functions in JavaScript later in this tutorial.

Anonymous functions are the ones that are not given any name. Anonymous functions are usually used as arguments to other functions. We will see anonymous functions in JavaScript later in this tutorial.
